Josephine Thompson

Josephine leads the Telstra People Services team, part of Telstra’s Global Business Services Function and is responsible for the delivery and improvement of all HR products and services for Telstra globally, including talent acquisition, learning deployment, Payroll, HR technology support, country business partner team, remuneration, performance and reward. The team supports all employees and contingent workers across 21 countries with self-serve digital channels, and an enquiry management and shared service center in Manila. With a deep focus on digitization, automation and employee experience through continuous improvement, process excellence and lean ways of working.

Josephine has worked for Telstra for the last 12 years in a diverse range of strategic, commercial, operational and functional leadership roles. These roles include talent acquisition where she developed Telstra’s first employment brand and value proposition, whilst centralizing and insourcing recruitment activities across Telstra, improving candidate experience and quality, and reducing attrition by 80%. She led HR technology and innovation, developing a five-year technology roadmap, implementing recruitment, learning and performance systems; Led and built a Global Payroll function with a new team and support model; Led the reporting and analytics function building a strategy realizing new visualization dashboards and a data hub bringing HR data together for the first time.

In 2017, Josephine moved to the HR Strategy & Operations role, working the GE HR to establish a three-year strategy and operating plan for the HR Function. She was accountable for HR Business Operations and was the HR Business Partner. In 2018 Josephine led a transformational change to the HR Function, creating the People Services function that she leads today.

A senior leader with global experience across FMCG, Consulting and Telecommunications industries. Prior to joining Telstra, Josephine worked at Accenture in New Zealand and Australia, and was the Head of Recruitment and Strategic Workforce Planning at the Coles Myer Group.
